Shaun Alexander To Be Keynote Speaker At FCA Banquet In February

  • Saturday, December 13, 2014

The annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes "Road to Victory" Banquet will be held Tuesday, February 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Chattanooga Convention Center.  Former Alabama and Seattle Seahawks running back, Shaun Alexander will be the keynote speaker for this annual fundraiser that benefits the Greater Chattanooga FCA.

"We are thrilled to have Alabama’s all-time rushing yardage leader come to Chattanooga to speak on behalf of FCA." stated local FCA Director Jay Fowler.  "Shaun Alexander was a champion in football and he continues to be one in life.  He has been very involved in FCA since his first years at Alabama, serving as the FCA president there and serving in a variety of roles at FCA Camps through the years."

Originally from Florence, Ky., Mr.

Alexander set a Kentucky state record with 54 touchdowns at Boone County HS his senior year and was named Kentucky’s “Mr. Football.”  He chose Alabama over a number of other offers and made a huge splash as in his very first game, as a redshirt freshman, he rushed for 291 yards and four touchdowns against LSU.  For his career, Mr. Alexander rushed for a school-record 3,433 yards and had 40 rushing touchdowns.  He helped lead the 1999 Crimson Tide to a SEC Championship Game victory versus Florida.

The Seattle Seahawks drafted Mr. Alexander with the 19th overall pick of the 2000 NFL Draft.  By his second year with the Seahawks, he became the featured back for Seattle and began a five year run of excellence that saw him gain at least 1175 yards each year and score at least 16 touchdowns.  In 2005, Shaun was voted the NFL MVP as he led the league with 1880 rushing yards and 27 rushing touchdowns.  He led the Seahawks to the Super Bowl that year where they narrowly lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Mr. Alexander was with Seattle from 2000 – 2007 and then spent one year with the Washington Redskins before retiring from the game.

Mr. Alexander and his wife have seven kids and live in Northern Virginia.  He is committed to being the best husband and father he can be and speaks around the country for groups like FCA and churches to share of his love for Jesus Christ and family.

The Greater Chattanooga FCA was founded locally in 1961 by Marion Gaston and several other local Christian business leaders. Road to Victory is the primary annual fund-raiser for the Greater Chattanooga FCA in its ministry to athletes and coaches on more than 70 high school, middle school, and college campuses in southeast Tennessee.
