UTC Women Face No.7 Stanford Wednesday At 6 p.m.

For the second time in as many games at the McKenzie Arena, the women’s basketball team will face off against a Top 10 team. The Mocs will host No. 7Stanford Wednesday night at the Roundhouse at 6 p.m..

It’s been three weeks since the Mocs (6-3) have played in the friendly confines of home and three weeks since upsetting the No.

4 team in the nation with a 67-63 win over the Tennessee Lady Vols. In that time, Chattanooga went 2-1 in road games with a loss at Arkansas State before righting the ship and beating instate foes Belmont and UT Martin.

Chattanooga averages 61.7 points per game and shooting 42.3 percent from the field. From beyond the arc, the Mocs are shooting just over 32 percent, averaging six per game. On the boards, the Mocs are trailing opponents by just more than one rebound per game and have been beaten on the boards five times and won three of those contests. Defensively, Chattanooga ranks first in the Southern Conference for blocked shots with 5.7 per game while snagging 9.7 steals per game.

Freshman Keiana Gilbert (Columbia, Tenn.) leads Chattanooga in scoring with 12.3 points per game and assists with 22 on the year. She is second in rebounding averaging 5.8 per game. She has a team-best 24 offensive boards. Sophomore Jasmine Joyner is averaging 11.0 points per game and leads the team in rebounding with 8.9 per game. She is first in the SoCon on the defensive boards with 80 on the year and had a league-best 33 blocked shots.

Stanford is 6-2 on the year with an upset overtime victory against defending national champion UConn in just the second game of the season. That was followed with an overtime loss Top 10 foe Texas. The Cardinal’s only other loss was in the opening round of the University of Hawai’i Rainbow Wahine Shootout to North Carolina. Since then, Stanford has won its last three contests.

Stanford averages 80.6 points per game, outscoring opponents by an average 14.1 points per game and outpaces foes on the boards with 42 rebounds per game. From the field, the Cardinal are shooting 46.3 percent and average eight 3-pointers per game.

Lili Thompson leads the team in scoring with 19.7 points with 16 from beyond the arc. Amber Orrange is the only other Cardinal in double figures with 14.6 points per game and has 4.5 rebounds per game. Kaylee Johnson has a team-best average of 12.4 rebounds and 11 blocked shots on the year.

This will be the first meeting between Chattanooga and Stanford. This will be just the second time Jim Foste rhas faced a Stanford squad. The Cardinal, coached by current head coach Tara VanDerveer, eliminated Ohio State from the 2009 NCAA Tournament in the Sweet 16 with an 84-66 win in Berkeley Regional.

The game is set to tip off at 6 p.m. Eastern time.
