The Hamilton County 911 Emergency Communications District announced the results of its Annual Food Drive Competition. This year’s food and monetary donations are the equivalent to 33,711 pounds of food and will provide 28,093 meals to area residents through the Chattanooga Area Food Bank. This is approximately 209 pounds of food donated per district employee. District employees exceeded last year’s donations by over 12,400 pounds.
Each year, this food drive is organized as an internal competition among all three shifts of telecommunicators as well as the administration staff during the month of November. This year the competition also included a special challenge from the Brentwood 911 Center in Brentwood as to which center could donate the most pounds of food per employee. Brentwood 911 Center results were impressive as well, with a total of 921 pounds equal to 83.7 pounds per person.
Training & Quality Assurance Supervisor Tami Chamberlain said about the employees, “You are all fantastic, caring people that I’m honored to work with. Thank you for your continued support of this worthy cause. You should all be proud of the achievements of the district, your teams and yourselves.”
Zach Collins, development associate at the Chattanooga Area Food Bank also expressed his thanks to the district employees saying, “This is a huge contribution! Here at the Chattanooga Area Food Bank we could not provide services to the community without the generous support of our community members.”
The district’s employees have a strong history of community involvement and charity throughout the year, including a new pet food drive for the McKamey Animal Care and Adoption Center. District employees annually support the following local charities, just to name a few: March of Dimes, Salvation Army (Angel Tree), Breast Cancer Awareness, Alzheimer’s Association and Juvenile Diabetes Association.
