Parkridge East Hospital Announces Prenatal Education Classes For January - March 2015

Parkridge East Hospital is offering a variety of Prenatal Education Classes in January, February, and March. Classes include: 

-  Labor of Love (Lamaze) Four Week Series ($50) – Mondays beginning Jan, 5, 6:30-9 p.m. - This class will prepare first-time parents for everything they will need to know about having their baby. The class discussion will include nutrition, labor, delivery, and postpartum care for mom. This class also includes comfort techniques to be used during labor.
Lamaze breathing and relaxation exercises will be practiced every week at the end of class. This is the ideal class for parents who think they might want to go without an epidural, but may not be sure. A support person is highly recommended to be in attendance with the expectant mother. Bring two pillows to class. Breastfeeding class is free when taking this class. A tour of the hospital is included during class. 

-  Labor of Love (Lamaze) One Day Class ($75) – Feb. 14 from 9 a.m-3 p.m. This class is ideal for parents who don’t have time for a 4-week series. Lamaze breathing and relaxation exercises will be practiced during class. A support person is highly recommended to be in attendance with the expectant mother. Bring two pillows to class. A 30 minute lunch break will be given. Breastfeeding class is free when taking this class. A tour of the hospital is included during class. 

-  Infant/Child CPR Class ($15) – Jan. 24, Feb. 21, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. This is an American Heart association course taught by a Basic Life Support instructor. Course describes what to do in the event your infant or child stops breathing or begins to choke. Injury prevention is also discussed. This class is recommended for anyone in the child’s life. Note: This class is not a certification for healthcare or day care workers. 

-  Breastfeeding Class ($15 per couple) – Jan. 17, 10 a.m.-noon or Feb. 19 6:30-8:30 p.m. Good for first time and veteran parents, this class includes topics such as: the physiology of breastfeeding, advantages, techniques, common pitfalls and challenges, returning to work and pumping. A support person is strongly encouraged to attend with mother, but not required. This class is free with any Labor of Love Lamaze class. 

-  Tours of the Birth Place at Parkridge East Hospital (free) available Jan. 17 from noon-1 p.m. or Jan. 24 1-2 p.m. or Feb. 21 from 1-2 p.m. or Feb. 19 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Come get acquainted with the Parkridge East Hospital facility and take a walking tour with one of the nurses. Tour the Labor and Delivery area and Mother/Baby (based on availability). Prenatal services and classes will be discussed with a time for questions and answers. This tour begins in the Rowe Conference Room. 

-  Boot Camp for Dads (free) available Feb. 28, 9 a.m.-noon. A fun, free and informative class for Dads (rookie or veteran) about the ins and outs of being a great dad. This class discuses challenges fathers face and is led by a First Things First instructor. Note: This is a men’s only class.
