City Accountant Paul Johnson told the Lookout Mountain, Ga., City Council on Thursday evening that the city was operating with a small surplus for the year with all assets for the 2014 fiscal year at $6.7 million and the liabilities at $2.4 million.
Mr. Johnson noted the purchase of a new police vehicle and several necessary purchases and improvements to the city’s sewer system. His also said the city has eight years remaining on the sewer loan and that the total payment for this year is $275,000.
City Manager Brad Haven announced he has placed an order for a new leaf machine to assist in the removal of brush and leafs during the winter. He anticipates the machine to be ready in the next 60 days. Mr.
Haven also shared with the council that the repairs being made to the culvert and road at Fort Trace will be complete before Christmas. All that remains is to complete the repair to the street.
Mr. Haven also noted that the city’s new street signs were being installed and crews have completed 20 out of 64. Mr. Haven stated that he is waiting on the remaining ones to arrive to complete the installation.
Council members Taylor Watson and Jim Sabourin along with city attorney Bill Pickering were in attendance at the council meeting.
The city held the annual Christmas party for employees at the Fairyland Club where the council and Mayor Sandy Gothard expressed their gratitude for all the employees who work diligently to make the town what it is. Also in attendance were past mayors and family members of city employees and the council. The mayor recognized all the employees who had served the city and how many years they had served.
