Two UTC Students Honored By SGA

  • Monday, December 22, 2014

Two UTC students who work in the Aquatic and Recreation Center have been recognized by the UTC Student Government Association for providing emergency medical assistance.

A student who was working out on the fitness floor of the ARC suffered a sudden health problem resulting in cardiac arrest on Sept. 29. Student staffers Connor Pierce, a junior and criminal justice major, and Maci Howell, a sophomore and geology major, were both on duty at the ARC that day.

“As a result of training, Maci and Connor took charge of the scene and started CPR,” said Miles Ledford, assistant director of Facilities in Campus Recreation. “Maci and Connor have both had outdoor and military leadership training, respectively, making them very familiar with emergency situations.   As a result of these two student leaders taking immediate action and staying calm, all turned out well and they potentially saved the life of a fellow student.”

Mr. Pierce and Ms. Howell were named SGA Student of the Month for the months of October and November, respectively.
