Rita McAdoo
Rita Lavon McAdoo, 57, died on December 22, 2014, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Rita was born on Oct. 31, 1957 to John Kidd (deceased) and Theresa B. Woods (deceased) in Nashville. She attended Nashville Public Schools, graduating from McGavock High School. She continued her education at Fisk University. Rita married Jesse N. McAdoo, Sr. in 1986. She gave birth to two sons, Jesse Jr. and Lawrence. In 1989, the family relocated from Nashville, to Chattanooga.
Rita was a real woman! She spoke the truth, laid down the law, and was the life of the party all at the same time. Rita was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a food connoiseur, never going to the same restaurant twice. She was so blessed by her new role as grandmother and valued the passing down of stories, songs, and traditions. She was particular about tasks being done right, which always happened to corresponded to how she visualized it in her head.
Rita was proceeded in death by beloved grandmother, Celestine Woods; mother, Theresa Woods; brother, Victor Woods; mother-in-law, Annie Lou McAdoo, sister-in-law, Juanita Bailey; and brother-in-law, Thomas Thompson.
She leaves behind loving husband, Jesse N. McAdoo, Sr.; two sons, Jesse N. McAdoo, Jr. and Lawrence (Brittany) McAdoo; one daughter, Antoinette Searcy (Lyndon) Bostic; one grandaughter, Halo McAdoo; one brother, Jeffrey W. (Ann) Woods; nephew, Jeffrey W. Woods Jr.; sister in law, Maxine White; devoted cousins, Nikki Johnson (Mark) Jackson and Tonya Colbert; great-aunt, Lenola Martin and host of other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, at New City Fellowship Church, 2424 East 3rd Street. Interment will be Evan Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Hermitage, Tn.
The body will lie in state after noon on Friday, Dec. 26, and the family will receive friends this evening from 6-7 pm at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 622-9995.
