The Southern Lit Alliance is hosting a discussion of Ron Rash’s bestsellingnovel Serena as part of the So Lit Book Club series, on Tuesday evening, Feb. 17, 2015, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Brix Nouveau.
A New York Times bestseller and PEN/Faulkner Award finalist, Serena is “masterfully written...sprawling, engrossing and—from time to time—nightmarish,” (San Francisco Chronicle). Mr. Rash's chilling gothic tale tells of greed, corruption and revenge set against the backdrop of the 1930’s
wilderness and America's burgeoning environmental movement. The novel, named a Best Book of the Year by more than a dozen national publications including The New York Times and the Washington Post, has become a film produced by Susanne Bier and stars Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. The film is to premiere in the U.S. in February 2015.
Mr. Rash is the Parris Distinguished Professor in Appalachian Cultural Studies at Western Carolina
University, and will be among the 50 writers present at the Celebration of Southern Literature,
sponsored by the Southern Lit Alliance on April 16-18, 2015, in downtown Chattanooga.
Brix Nouveau is at 301 Cherokee Boulevard on the North Shore. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. 10% of the proceeds from the evening will benefit the outreach programs of the Southern Lit Alliance.
So Lit Book Club events are free and open to the public. For more information on the Southern Lit Alliance, visit www.SouthernLitAlliance.org.
