Covenant Women Fall To Agnes Scott 72-58

  • Saturday, December 6, 2014
Haley Soles scored a career high-tying 19 points, but the Covenant women's basketball team could not muster enough scoring around her as the Scots fell to Agnes Scott 72-58 on Saturday.

Morgan Woodward added 13 as the only other Covenant player in double figures as the Scots shot 31.7 percent from the field, and 26.3 percent from 3-point range.

Covenant (0-6) took an early 11-6 lead when Abbey Bailey stole the ball from Natasha Banks of Agnes Scott (2-4) and converted it on the other end with a jumper. But a 6-0 run by the host Scotties gave them the lead. After a free throw by Bailey tied the game, Agnes Scott's Kisha Simpson hit a jumper to put them ahead for good.

Trailing 32-27 at halftime and falling behind 36-27 early in the second half, the Scots clawed their way back into the game with a 13-5 run, highlighted by two 3-pointers by Soles, which were among the five she hit for the game.

After cutting the lead to 43-42, Covenant would miss its next 10 shots and hit only 4-of-21 from the field for the rest of the game as Agnes Scott pulled away and cruised to the victory.

The Scotties were led by the 23 points of Shavonne Orr, and had three other players score in double-figures. Simpson recorded a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds, while also recording five steals. Agnes Scott shot 51.9 percent from the field.

Bailey ended with nine rebounds and five points, while Clara Dirkse chipped in six points and seven rebounds for Covenant. Rachel Price added seven points and six rebounds.

Next up for the Scots is a home date with Sewanee on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
