Silverdale coach Randy Evans wasn't exactly comfortable with an eight-point lead at halftime of his team's District 5-A matchup with the Grace Academy Golden Eagles Monday night.

Evans really didn't have much to worry about, but you know how these young coaches can be.

Grace had a great start and held a 17-14 lead when the first quarter ended, but it went downhill from there for the Golden Eagles as they didn't score that many points in the next three quarters as Silverdale pulled away for the 48-30 victory.

Silverdale improves to 6-5 overall and 1-1 in the district while Grace is winless after six games and 0-2 in 5-A.

"It's a win and we'll take it," Evans said shortly after the game ended.

"It's always nice to get a big win against a big district rival, but we're still trying to learn how to play when we're ahead.  The good news about tonight's game is that we continued to build on our lead, but we can't be satisfied with a lead at any point of the game.

"We're still trying to jell as a team, but overall, I'm happy with the effort we put forth tonight.  And it was so good to see Jon Matthiess here tonight," the Silverdale coach concluded.

It has been a tough fall for the veteran Grace head coach as his wife suffered a stroke about two months ago.  She's made great strides in recent weeks and despite the fact that she still has a long road ahead to recovery, she's supposed to come home later this week.

Darris Waters has been filling in, so all of the changes have been tough on everyone.

"I thought we got off to a good start tonight, but we sort of lost faith in our offense," he said after a lengthy post-game meeting with his players.

"I'm really not pleased with what I saw as we sort of hung our heads when we got behind.  We're a better team than what we showed tonight.  We're young in experience as only two players have any varsity time, so we'll keep working to get better," he added.

Payton Lyons sank the first of two free throws for the first points of the game 10 seconds in before Jared Roberts scored on a putback following the miss as Grace had the early 3-0 lead.

A layup by Zach Miller stretched the Golden Eagle lead to 9-4 with 4:36 showing in the first quarter and the difference was still five at 11-6 when Andrew Godsey scored on a layup 30 seconds later, but that's when the Seahawks started playing a little harder.

A 3 from the wing by Brannon Walls knotted the score at 11 with 2:43 to play and Jordan Delashmitt gave the hosts their first lead at 14-11 on a three-point play the old-fashioned way at the 2:21 mark.

Roberts scored on a short jumper from the wing to knot the score at 14-14 with 40 seconds remaining before Noah Russell made it 17-14 Grace with a three-point play late in the quarter.

Three straight drives by Avery Boggess allowed Silverdale to regain the lead as the Seahawks opened the second quarter on an 8-0 run before Hunter Lewis scored on a putback with 2:53 left before the half to draw Grace to within 22-19.

Delashmitt then scored the final five points of the half as the Seahawks went to their dressing room up 27-19.

Lyons had the only four points in the third quarter as Silverdale's eight-point lead swelled to 39-23 with one quarter remaining.

A 3 by Lyons midway through the fourth got Grace to within 41-28, but the Seahawks finished the game on a 7-2 run to win going away.

Delashmitt and Boggess both scored 14 points to lead the Silverdale offense while Michael Hawkins was next with eight.

Roberts topped Grace with 10 points while Lyons finished with eight.

Both teams had 26 rebounds unofficially with Roberts grabbing eight and Lyons six for the Golden Eagles.  Nathan Keylon had eight rebounds for Silverdale.

SILVERDALE GIRLS 58, GRACE 28: Megan Lewis had the hot hand for the Lady Seahawks and nobody could stop her as she scored 18 points to lead Silverdale to its eighth win in 11 games.

While the junior sharp-shooter was scoring all of her points from beyond the arc, teammates Emily Harkleroad and Rachael Sanders chipped in with 10 and seven points, respectively.

Claire McMasters was the leader for Grace with a dozen points.
