Union Bashing - And Response

Monday, February 10, 2014

I for one am really sick and tired of all the union bashing and out and out lies being spread around. I was a member of a union at my job and if anything we sometimes felt like the union was not fighting hard enough and the employer was getting away with too much. The union knew how far to push and when not to based on the particular issue being argued.   As far as the continuous lies about someone from the outside coming and telling them how things will be that’s ridiculous.  Everything a union does is voted on by the membership at the monthly meetings and actions aren’t taken without a majority approval.

Lest people forget, if it wasn’t for the unions there wouldn’t have been child labor laws, workmen’s comp, workplace safety rules, 40 hour work weeks, overtime pay, and many other benefits that all employees enjoy whether union or not.  As far as the unions being responsible for all the lost jobs here that is a big lie too. Corporate greed, pollution regulations and other issues cost us more jobs than anything the unions did.

The majority of the anti-union rhetoric comes straight from the playbook of the hard right of the G.O.P. and the Tea Party and they will do or say anything to defend the rich at the expense of the working class anytime (of course the problem is that neither party is giving us a reasonable alternative).

Oh, one last note; before the usual liberal-bashers come out to paint me with the lib-tard brush I’m a conservative myself, I’m just an honest one unlike most.

Mr. Kaylor,

I think you make a very strong point about how much work unions did to gain the 40 hour work week and child labor laws. Seems their work is done. Maybe they can re-negotiate for a different 40 hours?

As for bashing, the UAW has been at war with VW for 50 years. Walter Reuther attacked VW's commercial division by coercing Washington to include a 25 percent tax on foreign trucks. In return the UAW didn't strike before an election. I'm sure that all of the union members voted on that little deal, right? And VW suffered great losses from a direct jab from the UAW.

From one honest un-lib-tard to another, get in bed with shady people and your life as you know it will change.

This isn't your daddy's IBEW or IAFF.

Community Should Come First

The community of Eastdale wants to revitalize our community. In our efforts to do so we need to recruit homeowners. With that being said we can not have an abundance of corner stores and or gas stations in our neighborhood less than a half mile in either direction. Adding another Kankus store does not provide a healthy mix.  In all due respect, we as a community are afraid ... (click for more)

Passing On The History Of Atrocities To Eliminate Them

Out of curiosity, yesterday, I read an obituary of a local person who had served in WWII, and participated in the freeing of prisoners at a German concentration camp that I had never heard of before. My curiosity was peeked to find out how many concentration camps the Germans operated during the War, so I googled and found ... (click for more)
