Georgia Northwestern Cats Rally For Breast Cancer, Locher Breast Center

Georgia Northwestern reached out to help in the fight against Breast Cancer Feb. 7 by hosting a breast cancer awareness “Pink Game” at the Rossville Athletic Complex (R.A.C.)

The Bobcats fell short on the scoreboard falling by 10, 54-44, to NJCAA Region XVII rival Emory-Oxford. However, it was a big win for all who took part in the pink game effort.

A portion of ticket sales on the day went towards the efforts of the Mary Ellen Locher Breast Center of Excellence at Memorial Hospital. Center representatives were also on hand to do breast screenings at The R.A.C.

According to the Memorial Health care System website, “Established in 2007, the MaryEllen Locher Breast Center was inspired by the local television news anchor and health reporter who courageously battled breast cancer. As a result of her personal experience with cancer, MaryEllen pledged to make the breast cancer journey easier for all women. Although MaryEllen ultimately lost her battle to cancer in 2005, her legacy lives on in the thousands of women whose lives have been touched by the center which bears her name.”

From Christmas Toy Drive to food donations to area missions, Georgia Northwestern athletics keeps busy within the communities of Northwest Georgia in and out of their season. However, it is now back to business on the hardwood as the Bobcat (7-13, 2-4) season is now coming down the stretch. Games against Crown College (TN), Welch College (TN), Tennessee Temple, and Knox College (TN) all lie waiting for Georgia Northwestern this coming week as the NJCAA Region XVII program prepares for its post-season tournament at Emory-Oxford College in Oxford, Georgia the weekend of February 22-24.

Covenant Softball Picked 11th In Preseason Poll

The USA South Athletic Conference released its softball preseason coaches poll on Wednesday afternoon. Piedmont was picked to win the conference, while Covenant was selected to place 11th in the 13-team league. Piedmont garnered 11 of the 13 first place votes, while Averett had two. Cox Leads Covenant Men Past Piedmont

- TJ Cox scored a career-high 21 points and the Covenant men's basketball team picked up a critical USA South victory on Wednesday night 69-61 at Piedmont inside Cave Arena. Chief Fletcher Gives Maximum Punishment To Patrol Officer Who Fired 4 Shots Toward Vehicle That Backed Toward Him

Chattanooga Police Chief Fred Fletcher has given a maximum punishment to an officer who fired four shots toward a vehicle after he said the driver backed into his vehicle with him standing behind it. Chief Fletcher sustained a finding of “improper use of force – discharge of firearm.” He suspended Officer Alex Olson for 30 days without pay – the maximum suspension allowed ... (click for more)

Van Found On Its Side Off Burkhalter Gap Road; Woman's Remains Nearby; May Be Trenton Woman Missing Since June 4

A van was found on its side off Burkhalter Gap Road on the side of Lookout Mountain near Trenton, Ga., on Wednesday with a woman's body nearby. Authorities said the woman may be a missing Trenton woman. Justine Marie Creech had been missing since June 4. The discovery was made by a woman out hiking.
