A 38-year-old man housed at the Walker County Detention Facility was found hanging in his cell at approximately 7:07 Monday morning, according to Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson.
The inmate was the single occupant of the cell. Evidence suggests the inmate died after he used a bed sheet to hang himself, the sheriff said.
The inmate is identified as Tommy L. Barron Jr., of Trenton, Ga.
He was being held on a parole violation and burglary charges for the Dade County Sheriff’s Office.
At the request of Sheriff Wilson, the GBI and Coroner Dewayne Wilson are investigating the death.
The body will be transported to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy.
