Chattanooga-Based Bellhops Mobilizes 2,800 Workers In 116 Cities

Thursday, February 20, 2014

Bellhops, a tech-based moving company in Chattanooga, has launched in 68 additional cities and hired 800 more contract student workers since the beginning of February, according to Co-Founder Cameron Doody.

“We are thrilled to announce our nationwide expansion to 116 cities across the country,” Mr. Doody said. “We are ready for our biggest year yet, and we are pumped to provide high paying part-time jobs to thousands more students in 2014.”

More than 2,000 students from 150 universities are currently employed by Bellhops as 1099 workers. Students are paid $13 an hour for each move or $15 an hour if they lead the move.

Over 800 applications come in a week from college students applying to work for Bellhops.

“We are able to hire a large number of students because ours bellhops choose the moves they will work and design their own schedule,” Mr. Doody said. “This instills responsibility and accountability in the students we employ.”

Bellhops has nearly tripled in size at its headquarters on Market Street in downtown Chattanooga, going from five to 14 full-time roles in five months. Bellhops now operates moves for students, young professionals and families.

Bellhops landed in Chattanooga in October 2012 after raising a round of funding with Lamp Post Group, a Chattanooga venture incubator.

Something Beautiful Happened Monday Night - Not The Debate

Monday, Sept. 26, our first presidential debate happened; no minds were changed.  Yet something beautiful and important happened.  The Atlanta Falcons, my team, played the New Orleans Saints.  Instead of some irrelevant, broad based, screw America protest, the opposing teams locked arms in unity. I was impressed. I have been a Falcon Fan since 1971 when WMOC AM ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: Arnold Palmer’s Greatness

This is hardly meant to be flippant but I’d be willing to bet I’ve been in the presence of more great people than anyone you know. I’ve never ranked them, or ever dared to wonder who was the greatest, such as Muhammad Ali or Elvis Presley, but there are two traits that those who reach the highest pinnacle have in common. First, not a one of them was any good at what made them famous ... (click for more)
