Aquatic Survival Lessons Offered For Young Children

  • Friday, February 21, 2014

The Infant Swimming Resource program will be offered at the Downtown and Hamilton Place YMCA this summer.

The six-week lessons are for children ages six months to six-years-old.  Although no one is "drownproof," there are a number of things parents can do to help with the fight against drowning, said officials, and the class teaches those methods.

Drowning is the leading cause of death for infants and young children between the ages of 1-4 other than birth defects, and in children aged 1-14 years drowning is the second-leading cause of unintentional injury deaths behind motor vehicle crashes.
