Impressed By Sheriff Hammond - And Response (3)

Friday, February 21, 2014

I got to attend a meeting where the sheriff spoke recently and was impressed.

Crime is currently down in Hamilton County, largely due to the sheriff’s team. In November, the sheriff’s office received the distinguished CALEA accreditation award, which is an award given based on the desire to provide the highest level of safety and service to the residents of Hamilton County. This award also reflects the ability of the sheriff’s office to review and make improvements without mandates from the department of justice.  The sheriff also secured a $1 million federal grant that has improved the SRO program adding more officers and security in our public schools.

Unlike many politicians, Sheriff Hammond always seems to speak bluntly, but truthfully. Just recently he appeared on talk radio to dispel rumors and clear up any confusion about the new radar guns. If you have ever stop to talk to Sheriff Jim Hammond you will find that he listens to your concerns and answers with a thoughtful response.

I would like to thank Sheriff Jim Hammond for the tremendous job he has done as our Hamilton County sheriff.  Join me in voting for him May 6.

You've got to be kidding me?  My last interaction with him proved him to be arrogant and rude.  Unseat him and show him that we, as citizens of Hamilton County, will not accept alleged "demi-gods" as our representative.

By all means, vote.  Just don't vote for Jim Hammond.

I recently heard Sheriff Hammond on talk radio and he presented a good argument for the laser speed cameras. They are only used by trained officers, only used in high accident areas and the money goes to fund driver's education. Obviously, if you don't speed you won't get a ticket, so it's tough for me to see it as a money grab or an infringement of privacy. Just obey the traffic laws. If you don't, you fund driver's ed.

The only question I have is why do we need to contract with an outside agency that takes 50 percent of the cost of the ticket for administration of the program? Seems like we could utilize our own county personnel to oversee the mailing of the citations via the county clerk's title and tag office, thereby keeping more of the proceeds.

Regardless of the outcome, on talk radio at least, Sheriff Hammond was cordial, knowledgeable, and polite. He'll get my vote. I'm just surprised at the relative ease in which a couple of commissioners were convinced to change their last vote, but then, they are politicians after all. So much for principles.

Either Mr. Kelly is terribly deluded to the idea of Sheriff Hammond's capacity as a "politician" or he is in on the joke. Either way, when starting a sentence that talks about politicians which refers to them as speaking "truthfully" and "bluntly" I am afraid only one of those words can apply. In Hammond's case there is no shadow of doubt which is applies.

During A Martin Luther King, Jr. March Is Not A Time To Campaign

It truly amazing what Martin Luther King, Jr. accomplished at just 39 years of age. He changed an entire country. Dr. King was not in elected office or in any position of power. Shulman Leads McCallie Past Calhoun In MLK Hoops

The inaugural MLK King of the Court day of basketball action at UTC’s Maclellan Gym is now in the books and there were some pretty good games despite only one of the five games being relatively close. The GPS Bruisers came from behind to beat Van Buren County by a 51-45 final, but the average margin of victory for the other four games was a whopping 26.25 points. Those other ... (click for more)
