A man charged with aggravated assault has been referred to the Joseph Johnson Mental Health Center in order to be evaluated to see if he is competent enough to stand trial and to try to determine his mental state at the time of the crime.
According to police, they received a call from a woman who said 46-year-old Ralph Alexander Boston showed up at her home on Portland Street and started to threaten her. She told them Boston was carrying a machete and walking a large pit bull.
Police said he told her he was going to "cut her up" and send the dog to attack her. She immediately called 911, saying she was in fear for her life. A witness also verified her statement.
When police arrived, they said they saw Boston walking the pit bull down the street, still carrying the machete.
After his arrest, bail was set at $40,000. Back in December, Boston was indicted by a Grand Jury.
