City Offers $1 Million, Poss Homes Site For Tubman Property; Mayor Plans To Demolish Existing Structures; Market For Light Industry

Friday, February 07, 2014

Mayor Andy Berke on Friday sent an offer to the Chattanooga Housing Authority of $1 million, plus the Poss Homes site, for the Tubman property.

Mayor Berke said the plan would be to demolish the existing structures at the former CHA housing development and market the property for light industry.

The Poss Homes site includes 19.9 acres near I-24 and Howard School.

Mayor Berke said the total value of the city offer is $2.87 million.

The city made an earlier offer for the Tubman site, but CHA instead opted for a private developer. However, that deal fell through.

CHA has set a deadline of next Friday for new offers.

Some Howard High supporters have wanted to secure the Poss Homes property for the site for athletic fields for the school.

There were other kids in the neighborhood that not only claimed to ... (click for more)

On this, “Black Friday,” when frantic shopping and crowded aisles cause some nerves to wear thin, please allow me to share a poem a friend sent me not long ago called “Shoes in Church.” Perhaps it will be fitting: SHOES IN CHURCH I showered and shaved. UTC Men Defeat Coastal Carolina,78-67

UTC’s Ronrico White is use to pre-game shoot arounds, but Wednesday’s “almost midnight madness practice” 14 hours prior to tipoff against Coastal Carolina was out of the ordinary but highly effective. “My shooting touch was off (2 for 14 in the last three games) so Coach Wes Long called a shoot around for late last night and we made some adjustments in my technique and it paid ...
