Vehicle Being Chased By Police Lands On Its Top By Hiwassee River

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

A man who tried to elude police on Interstate 75 Tuesday ended the pursuit when the vehicle ran down an embankment near the Hiwassee River Bridge and landed on its top.

The driver, Julian D J Taylor, 23, of University Park Ill., was checked for injuries at a hospital before being taken to the Bradley County Jail where he was charged with resisting arrest, misuse of plates, evading, and reckless endangerment.

A detective assigned to the Special Investigations Unit conducted a traffic stop near exit 27 after dispatch confirmed the tag displayed on the vehicle was registered to another make of car.

When the detective approached, the vehicle sped off.  Several agencies responded to assist in apprehending the driver.  The chase continued on Lauderdale Memorial Highway but then returned to the interstate.

It didn't matter that the Chattanooga Christian volleyball team was on the road Tuesday night.  Who cared that they were playing one of their biggest rivals in District 7-AA in a loud and spirited Jack Steiner Sr. Gymnasium at Notre Dame High School. None of those factors came into play as the Lady Chargers were ready to play and the Lady Irish were not. The results ... (click for more)
