Erlanger Health System’s medical director of bariatric surgery, Chris Sanborn, M.D., will speak to area residents about the various solutions for encouraging and managing weight loss on Thursday, March 20 beginning at 6 p.m. at Fairfield Inn and Suites in Cleveland.
Obesity is a complex condition involving one’s eating habits, physical activity levels, heredity and socio-cultural norms.
It can also lead to many life-threatening health problems, such as heart or lung disease, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, asthma, GERD, joint degeneration, hypertension, and many types of cancer.
Dr. Sanborn will discuss the number of options that are now available for those who are struggling with obesity. One of the most recent developments in surgical weight loss is minimally-invasive robotic surgery, which allows the surgeon to perform the same procedures through very small incisions. This process provides the advantages of fine motor skills from the surgeon and shorter recovery time for the patient. He will also talk about the importance of having emotional, nutritional and medical support during and after weight loss.
The staff at Erlanger Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Center understands the challenges of weight loss and is dedicated to assisting with achieving lasting results. Through both medical and surgical weight loss solutions, participants are provided with the support from a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, dietitians, psychologists and exercise physiologists.
