Boyd's Speedway: S.A.S. ShamRock Weekend Events

Thursday, March 20, 2014

The top regional stars from across the southeast are expected to be on hand for the first points race of the 2014 Southern All Star racing season this weekend at Boyd's Speedway on the Tennessee/Georgia line near East Ridge for the 19th ShamRock race. Last year’s S.A.S points champion Riley Hickman of nearby Ooltewah, is expected to be in action and possibly start his title defense.

Hickman known as "The Hustler" picked up the last Super Late Model race victory at Boyd's in February winning $3,000 for the "Cabin Fever" crown.

Former two time S.A.S Champion Ivedent Lloyd Jr. of Ocala, FL, will be chasing title number three along with current and multi S.R.R.S. Champion Josh Putnam of Florence, AL. who've both expressed interest in a 2014 title run with the series out of middle Tennessee.

Crossville's Chris Wilson is fresh off a dominating performance a few weeks back at Winchester's WinterFest could be a threat. Also racers Michael Luna of Sparta, Tn., Cale Finley of Ardmore, Al., and Dylan Ames of Harvest, Al., are all looking for a first time run with the series in 2014. A strong mainstay of Super Late Model talent from the nearby Tennessee/Georgia area will likely be strong at Boyd's Speedway. Former S.A.S series Champion and current WoOLMs regular Clint Smith of Senoia, GA is expected, along with 1999 series champion Jamie Perry of Ringgold. Tennessee racing icon Skip Arp of nearby Georgetown could be in competition and some of the Murphy (NC) Mafia could be represented as the Chastain Bros. (Johnny and Shawn), Jamie Oliver and possibly Gabe Wilson are all no strangers to Boyd's race track.

The track itself has an array of talented racers that could cross-over into the S.A.S Super Late Model ranks for the weekend. Former Track Champion Jason Welshan of Maryville, TN is expected to compete as is former North GA Speedway track champion and Boyd's Crate LM dominator Jeff Smith of Villanow.

Also possibly expect to see former Cleveland Speedway Champion Todd Morrow, along with veteran racers like Rick Hixson, Heath Hindman, Tod Hernandez, Lamar Scoggins and John Ownbey. All could decide to compete in this event for a shot at the ShamRock $5,000 top prize. Many raceteams again will use Friday night to gain some much needed valuable seat time to get ready for the S.A.S ShamRock race on Saturday at Boyd's Speedway.

Roy Exum: Al Sharpton’s Wise Remarks

I’ll admit I paid little more than scant attention to the Monday funeral of Michael Brown, the 18-year-old who was shot and killed by police bullets in Ferguson, Mo., after he allegedly was involved in strong-armed robbery. There are too many tawdry details and, in my way of thinking, there is nothing under God’s sun, absolutely nothing, that gives others the right to riot, burn ... (click for more)
