Lady Mocs Tennis Defeats App State

Sunday, March 23, 2014

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s tennis team won its seventh match in a row today against visiting Southern Conference opponent Appalachian State in a 6-1 match.  The Mocs improve to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in the SoCon.

Chattanooga got fired up early with three back to back wins in doubles competition.  The team of sophomore Kelsey Coots and junior Claire Mulyadi jumped on their opponents quick and gave the other teams a boost.

“At number three doubles Kelsey and Claire were great at three and got the quick win and that gave us a boost at the other spots,” head coach Jeff Clark said.

The boost also helped out the team of junior Kaylene Chadwell and senior Alexa Flynn.  They came back from three behind to win the next seven games to improve to 6-0 in the spring.  That win earned the doubles point for UTC.

“It was a rocky start but they found their game and played great and won the last seven games of the match,” Clark said.

Chattanooga kept the momentum going into singles competition when sophomore Kayla Jones, Alexa Flynn and Kaylene Chadwell each won their match and earned the SoCon win for UTC.

“We played a good opponent today who beat us last year,” Clark said.  “We knew we had to be on our game today and we were.”

Chattanooga will make up its match with Lee University this coming Wednesday at the UTC Tennis Courts.  The match is rescheduled from February when inclement weather forced the teams to cancel and push it back.  The match is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. at the UTC Tennis Courts.
