City, County Finally Find Buyer For 23rd Street Armory

  • Tuesday, March 25, 2014

The city land county have finally found a buyer for the armory on 23rd Street and Willow.

City officials said, after several requests for proposals were fruitless, Stringfellow has made an offer of $157,348.

The Nashville-based firm deals in heavy truck equipment retrofitting.

A 60-year lease on the property was not renewed by the Army in 2012, so the property fell to the city and county.

Responding to City Council Vice Chairman Chip Henderson, Eddie Anderson of Stringfellow said he would consider letting the local chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America use one section of the property that includes three meeting rooms.

He said he would ask that the group fix the roof on that section as well as carrying liability insurance.

To help make the deal possible, the City Council and County Commission are being asked to declare the property to be surplus.
