Supt. Rick Smith said he received a call Wednesday morning from the office of Mayor Andy Berke setting up a meeting between him and the mayor on the issue of liquor tax funds.
The county schools had threatened to file suit after Supt. Smith earlier said he was having trouble getting the mayor to talk about the issue.
School officials claim the city owes the schools about $11 million because it should have been sharing liquor tax monies all along.
Supt. Smith said he welcomes the talks, saying to work the situation out is preferable to going to court and pay attorneys and legal fees.
He said the city initially had made a few payments on the debt, but then started taking an offset for money it said the city was owed by the schools for stormwater fees.
Supt. Smith said that threw a wrench in the settlement process. He said he is not aware of other governments that are being charged stormwater fees.
