The Rev. Dr. Rebecca Abts Wright will be leading the Adult Forum at Christ Episcopal Church, Douglas at McCallie, during the season of Lent. Please join us for an enlightening, insightful discussion on Sundays, 9:15 a.m. through April 13. We will meet in Fox Hall.
Dr. Wright is the C. K. Benedict Professor of Old Testament and Biblical Hebrew at The School of Theology at Sewanee: The University of the South. She is an ordained United Methodist Minister who loves to teach. Her teaching style not only helps students understand the Old Testament in its historical context, but also how it is relevant to the church today.
Pipe Organ Builders Richards Fowkes & Co. will have an Open House at the shop on Sunday, March 30 from 2 until 5 p.m. All are welcome to come see two smaller organs that are almost ready to ship. The shop is located at 7821 Old Lee Highway, Ooltewah, TN 37363.
A Welcoming Prayer Workshop with Rev. Tom Ward will be Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. . The workshop will be held in the Meditation Room at the Center for Mindful Living, 1212 McCallie Ave. The Welcoming Prayer is a companion prayer to Centering Prayer, a form of Christian Contemplation.
Centering Prayer may be practiced for an hour a day, 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes at night, but the Welcoming Prayer is used the rest of the 23 hours.
In the Welcoming Prayer we don't resist the emotions and struggles of everyday life, we welcome them with God's presence and action within us, transforming these stressors and ourselves in the process.
There is no need to have started a practice of Centering Prayer to attend this program.
The Rev. Tom Ward is the retired university chaplain at the University of the South and now spends his days focusing on the contemplative dimension of the gospel, teaching Centering prayer and leading retreats. Members, $50; non-members, $60, includes lunch.
