Motorcyclist Killed When Out-Of-Control Cyclist Hit Him On Hixson Pike Was Firefighter

A motorcycle went out of control on Hixson Pike on Sunday morning. The out-of-control cycle hit another motorcycle and both ran off the roadway.

The motorcycle rider who was hit by the other cycle was killed. The victim has been identified as Joseph Rutherford, 29, a member of the Lone Oak Fire Department on Signal Mountain.

The driver who went out of control suffered injuries, but they were not life-threatening.

In the incident at 9:05 a.m., Chattanooga Police officers responded to the 5000 block of Hixson Pike. Police said a group of motorcycles were traveling west on Hixson Pike when the incident happened.
