Kenny Smith Puts The County Above Partisan Politics

Monday, March 31, 2014

As a Republican it is very few times that I endorse a Democrat for any position. However I have known Kenny Smith for over 40 years, back to when he played basketball and baseball for Chattanooga High School. And I have known his wife Sammye virtually her entire life, going back to when both of our families were members of First Baptist Church. Kenny is a person of integrity and character and a devoted family man who would be a great representative for his district.

Kenny showed as School Board chairman that he puts the good of the county above partisan politics. As a member of the IBEW he was greatly responsible for creating their apprenticeship program that trains young people for the job demands of the 21st Century. Under his leadership the IBEW works in partnership with contractors and employers and is a valued member of our community. Kenny would work with County Mayor Jim Coppinger in the best interests of our county.

I encourage everyone in the 8th District to vote for Kenny Smith as their commissioner.

Criminal Court Clerk's Office Is Getting A Good Man

With the recent attention given to Vince Dean winning the Hamilton County Criminal Court Ccerk’s race and how he will handle the office and its staff, I believe I can provide some insight to him as a supervisor and boss.  I worked nearly 10 years for the Tennessee General Assembly, and for nearly all of them I worked as the sole staff person dedicated to the House Transportation ... A Public School Teacher Speaks Out

Recently, some poorly informed folks are spreading misinformation from the Beacon Center website encouraging teachers to "quit the union.” It alleges our support of a state income tax and our radical left-wing agenda.  The last time I checked, the state legislature determines how we are taxed. It's their job to adequately fund our public schools. They collect and redistribute ... (click for more)

McCallie's JaVaughn Craig Still Improving At Quarterback

(This is the 14th in a series of preseason stories on new high school football coaches, or veteran coaches at a different school, and top players in the Chattanooga area) JaVaughn Craig was the starting quarterback for McCallie all season a year ago, but it wasn’t originally planned like that. Craig was a wide receiver when he resumed his football career ... (click for more)

Hixson Beats Silverdale For Second Volleyball Win

There's something about that second set that gives the Hixson Lady Wildcats trouble. Hixson lost the second set in Monday's volleyball opener against Sale Creek.  They did the same thing against the Silverdale Seahawks on Tuesday, but just like Monday's match, the Lady Wildcats came out on top, 3-1. Hixson won the first set with ease, 25-11.  Silverdale evened the  ... (click for more)
