The Transportation Security Administration on Friday announced the official opening of an application site in Chattanooga for TSA Precheck, an expedited screening program that allows travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and keep 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels bag in a carry-on bag.
TSA is in the process of expanding to more than 300 application centers across the country.
The TSA Precheck application process allows U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents to go through a pre-enrollment process online at www.TSA.gov/tsa-precheck and visit an application center to provide biographic information (e.g. name, date of birth, address, etc.), fingerprints, valid required identity and citizenship/immigration documentation and an application fee of $85 for a five-year membership.
“This new application process will greatly increase the availability of TSA Precheck benefits to a broader population of travelers nationwide,” said TSA Administrator John S. Pistole. “TSA Precheck is enabling us to move away from a one-size-fits-all approach to transportation security, as we look for more opportunities to provide the most effective security in the most efficient way.”
“Our frequent flyers will greatly appreciate the added convenience of expedited screening and the opening of a local TSA Precheck application site,” said Terry Hart, president and CEO of the Chattanooga Airport. “We look forward to the enhanced experience this service will provide our customers.”
