Both Moc Teams Face Ga. Southern

The two University of Tennessee at Chattanooga basketball teams hope to send the Ga. Southern packing, permanently.

Today at the Southern Conference Basketball Championships in Asheville, N.C., the Lady Mocs (noon) and the Mocs (6 p.m.) take on the Statesvlle Ga.-based teams for the last time as Ga. Southern is leaving the Southern Conference at the end of this school year.

Both UTC teams have high seeds - Lady Mocs are No.1 and the Mocs are a No.2 seed - thus, had first round byes on Friday.

UTC Women's Basketball: Noon - No. 1 seeded Lady Mocs (26-3, 18-0) vs. Ga. Southern (10-20, 7-11)

Friday Results: No. 8 Ga. Southern def. No.9 Wofford, 75-62

UTC beat Ga. Southern, 69-60 and 72-60, earlier this season ...  UTC has won 22 in a row this season

SoCon Tourney History: UTC is defending conference champs ... has not won back-to-back titles since 2006-07-08 .... UTC is 48-16 overall in tournament play and 23-8 in opening games ... UTC has won 15 SoCon tourney titles ...

UTC vs. Ga. Southern ... This Year ... Ga. Southern beat UTC, 77-61 in Chattanooga, Feb. 20 ...

 The Mocs are 30-20 all-time against the Eagles and 5-1 in the SoCon Tournament.

- Chattanooga leads the SoCon in rebounding (37.4), rebound margin (+1.9) and blocks (5.1) and second in scoring.

Chattanooga’s 12-4 (.750) SoCon mark is the best winning percentage since 11-3 (.786) in 1996-97. First time with 12 wins since going 12-6 in 2010-11. It’s the 11th season with 12 or more regular-season wins.

SoCon Tourney RecordThe Mocs are 52-26 (.667) in the SoCon Tournament with 10 titles, the best record among current membership. That includes an 8-1 mark at home, 0-3 away and 44-22 on a neutral floor. In Asheville, Chattanooga is 21-10 with four championships.

Man, 28, Shot And Killed In East Chattanooga

A 28-year-old man was shot and killed in East Chattanooga early Friday morning. The victim was identified as Jeremy Clark, a brother of House candidate Dennis Clark.
