Charles Henry Nelson II, 84, of Chattanooga, died on Monday, April 14, 2014 at St. Barnabas Nursing Home.
He was a lifelong resident of Hamilton County, a member of Bethel AME Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Julia Gibson Nelson; his parents, Charles D. Nelson and Hannah Scruggs and a host of other relatives.
Survivors include his sons, Gerald Nelson, Sr. of Charleston, S.C.; Carl (Candace) Nelson of Chattanooga; Jeffery (LaQuanna) Nelson of Marietta, Ga.; daughters, Daphne Nelson Stargin of Franklin, Tn.; Yolanda Yvette Woods of Oak Ridge, Tn.; a host of grandchildren, adopted grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, cousins, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions to be made to the Bethel AME Church, 2000 Walker Street, Chattanooga, Tn. 37404, 423 622-1261.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 18, at National Cemetery with Rev. A.J. Holman, Sr. officiating.
The body will lie in state after noon on Thursday, April 17, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
