George Braskas Hobbs, Jr., 86, of Chattanooga, died peacefully in his sleep after a long illness on Monday, April 14, 2014.

George was born in Chattanooga on May 31, 1927.  He graduated from Central High School then joined the U.S. Navy.  After completing his military service, George then continued his education at Edmondson Jr. College.

George started his working career delivering newspapers and working at a grocery store in St. Elmo.  He then began working as a salesman for Hotpoint, Zenith, & Black & Decker and then became sales manager at Skill and Ingersoll Rand, retiring from the company after several years of service.  

George was married to Gladys on Jan. 19, 1951; they were married 63 years.  He enjoyed woodworking, attending grandchildren’s sporting events and flying RC airplanes. 

George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ethel Hobbs; sister, Anna Walden; children, Patricia Snipes and George “Sonny” Hobbs III.

George is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Gladys; children, Gina (Mike) Hennen, Greg (Laura) Hobbs and Brian (Jennie) Hobbs; grandchildren, Lauren Snipes, Ashlee Hobbs, Brian Hobbs, Patricia Hobbs,  Lilly Hobbs, Hunt Hobbs, Gracie Hobbs, John Hennen, Wade Hobbs, Jessica Jefferson and Jamie Jefferson; great-grandchildren, Khloe Hobbs and Kaleb Hobbs.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Mark Flynn officiating.  Interment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
