UTC Women's Tennis Blanks Western Carolina

Lady Mocs Win 7-0

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s tennis team scored a 7-0 sweep at Western Carolina this afternoon.  It was the fourth Southern Conference shutout for the Mocs who improved to 14-3 overall and 5-1 in league play. 

Chattanooga moves into a second-place tie with Samford (13-2, 5-1 SoCon) following today’s win.  Furman leads the league with a 5-0 conference mark, 12-5 overall.

The Mocs got the doubles point behind three strong wins.  Senior Alexa Flynn and junior Kaylene Chadwell won their fourth in a row to improve to 9-1 at No. 1 and 6-0 in SoCon action.  They lead a doubles group that is 17-1 as a team in league matches. 

Sophomores Kayla Jones and Alison Storie teamed up for the first time at No. 2, scoring an 8-4 win over Nicole Nielly and Sara Ruiz Pajares.  Junior Claire Mulyadi and Kelsey Coots won their fourth in a row with an 8-5 win over Megan McLinden and Erin Maquire at No. 3. 

UTC kept it rolling in singles, taking all six matches in straight sets.  Mulyadi was first off with a (6-0, 6-1) win over Maguire at No. 5.  Chadwell remained undefeated in SoCon play with a (6-2, 6-0) win over Shannon Bettiol at No. 2.

Coots closed it out with a (6-4, 6-3) win over Pajares at No. 4.  Jones, Flynn and Storie also had singles wins on the day.

UTC is back in action this weekend, hosting UNCG on Saturday and Elon on Sunday at the UTC Tennis Courts.  Match times and live scoring links are both available on the women’s tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.
