  • Wednesday, April 23, 2014

A brush fire destroyed an old home in the Lakesite area on Wednesday.

At 4:30 p.m., a neighbor called 911 to report a house fire along with a brush fire at 9113 Berry Lane.

The Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded and reported the house and surrounding property were on fire. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire from spreading throughout the dry terrain.

According to the property owner, Barry Branam, was burning brush around his property Wednedsday morning and thought he had extinguished the fire around noon before he returned to his house. Unfortunately, windy conditions caused the brush fire to rekindle and spread to his old home. No one lived at the old home. The Branams were using the home for storage.

No injuries were reported, but Hamilton County EMS was on the scene for any potential injuries to the firefighters. Damages are listed at $15,000.
