Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

I-75 from MM 13.9 to MM 25.3 expansion of Chattanooga SmartWay Intelligent Traffic System:  Work on this project continues.  There will be daytime shoulder closures and short term nighttime outside lane closures throughout the project area as the contractor performs work for future traffic cameras and dynamic message signs.  Estimated completion date is May. 

U.S. 27 (SR-29) reconstruction project from Manufacturers Road (Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River) to U.S. 127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Road/Boulevard):  Weather permitting, the contractor may have lane closures throughout the project area on weeknights to perform road work.  They will also be working on retaining walls and bridges throughout the project area.  During nighttime work, at least one lane will remain open in each direction.  On the evening of Friday the contractor will close the left lane of U.S. 27 North and South between the Olgiati Bridge and Manning Street, along with Manning Street itself, to pour the bridge deck for the bridge over Manning Street.  All work is weather permitting.  If this work is cancelled due to weather, it will be rescheduled to take place on the next available day.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is February 2015.  

SR-58 resurfacing from Lakewood Acres Road (LM. 9.20) to Greenwood Road (LM 14.68):  Work on this project is scheduled to begin during this report period.  Milling and paving operations are limited to Sunday through Thursday nights between 7 p.m.-6 a.m.  There will be temporary lane closures as needed on this project.  At least one lane in each direction will remain open at all times.  Estimated completion date is July.  

Construction of a State Industrial Access route serving Volkswagen Group of America, including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor is in the process of clearing and taking care of environmental measures in order to start on road and drainage.  Traffic will not be impacted at this time therefore, no lane closures are needed.  Estimated project completion date is September.  



Organization Combatting Sex Trafficking In Chattanooga To Host Benefit On Thursday

Boyd Says He Is Not On Witch Hunt Against CVB, But Intends To Seek Full Audit Of Agency; Graham Backs Visitors Bureau 100%

County Commission Finance Chairman Tim Boyd has told Chattanooga Visitors Bureau President Bob Doak that he is "not on a witch hunt" against the CVB, but he said he intends to seek a full audit of the agency. Man, Child Killed In Crash On Highway 136 In Walker County; 2nd Child Who Was Seriously Injured Dies On Monday

A man and an unrestrained five-year-old child were killed when a vehicle went out of control on Highway 136 in Walker County on Saturday. A 10-year-old in the car was seriously injured, and later died on Monday. The driver was thrown from the van and was dead at the scene. Judge Doug Meyer Lived A Full Life Helping Many

I was sadden to learn of the death of Judge Doug Meyer.  Judge Meyer retired from the Criminal Court bench here in 2006.  Prior to that he had been the Chattanooga city judge for several years.  As a young attorney I tried many cases in front of Judge Meyer.  Also while I was awaiting my case to be tried, I would observe him on the bench.  Judge Meyer ...
