The Greater Cleveland Community Bands will present A Mother's Gift, A Father's Pride on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Lee University's Conn Center.
The program celebrates family by combining Mother's Day and Father's Day into one concert honoring the contribution good parenting makes to society. This concert includes solo performances by mothers and fathers and their children.
George Olin, a father and grandfather, sets the scene of two people finding one another to start a family, with his clarinet solo, Stranger on the Shore.
Ricky Donegan, retired band director, brings the couple together in a gospel swing tune, Gospel John, which features his range as a trumpet soloist.
Amy Smitty, a new mom herself, is featured in two selections performing on piano. Shawnte Michaels, daughter of trombonist Mark Michaels, joins the Stage Band singing Feeling Good. Diane Bingham, alto saxophone, performs What a Wonderful World in her rendition of the tune Louis Armstrong and Kenny G made famous. Other performers include Vocal Rhapsody, directed by Karen Dale.
