14 Local Attorneys Apply For Clerk And Master Position

Fourteen local attorneys have applied for clerk and master of Hamilton County to replace retiring Lee Akers.

The filing deadline was Wednesday afternoon.

Mr. Akers said he expects that soon after the election next Tuesday that the next stage of the selection process will begin. The winner of the Republican primary between Pam Fleenor and Joe Manuel will be chancellor, Part 1. Jeff Atherton is unopposed to remain as chancellor, Part 2.

Mr. Akers said he will be involved in the selection process along with the two chancellors. He said he also expects that retiring Chancellor Frank Brown will take part.

He said his five deputy chiefs will also have input.

Mr. Akers' retirement date is Sept. 8.

He is paid $106,016.
