Lessons Learned About The Local GOP

Saturday, May 10, 2014
Through marriage, I was drawn into a local campaign here in Hamilton County. Our candidate won. Our candidate ran on qualifications, experience and actual skills that will serve the voters well in this office of public service.
As happy as we were at the substantial win, the impressions made upon me by a group of men that seem to run the local Republican office will always be front of mind. I don’t know that I have ever been around a more exclusive clique that seems very happy to keep all who aren’t in their little club out and even viewed as “enemies.”
I did have the occasion to meet a lot of good Republicans during the time of the campaign but was really shocked that a group of about a dozen old men seem to run the show.

I am hopeful that the new faces who won this week may change some of this for the better, but the GOP in Hamilton County is sadly known to our family as the Grumpy Old Partisans.

Wendell’s mistake in sending the story is ... (click for more)

I take absolute delight in planting a flower, feeding the birds and throwing a ball for my dog. I find that the more people who I come to know the more who I come to ... (click for more)
