Author/Musician To Perform At Hillcrest Elementary Wednesday

Author and musician Zig Wajler will be conducting his interactive educational Hands On with Zig music program at Hillcrest Elementary School on Wednesday at 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.

Hands On with Zig is an interactive cross curricular and multicultural music experience featuring a battery of world percussion introducing rhythms, sounds, and song-styles from around the world with traditional and contemporary instruments, folk songs and original compositions.   Audience members participate with hands on interaction including basic rhythm patterns, instruments names, chants, and form a world music ensemble.  

Cross curricular connections include social studies, math, language arts, science with historical and cultural content reinforced through active audience participation.  The program features world musical styles including; African, Native American, Latin, Hip-Hop, Jazz, U.S. and World Folk, and Caribbean among others.   

As an extension of the classroom, students will make a connection how textbook learning relates to music and their daily lives.  

Lee University Food Bank Receives Grant From Food Lion

Food Lion awarded a $5,000 grant to Lee University’s Food Bank.  A group of representatives from Food Lion and the Chattanooga Area Food Bank visited the university to volunteer on campus for the day.  As part of its “Feed Great Pantry Makeover” initiative, Food Lion contacted the Chattanooga Area Food Bank for recommendations for the grant. Man, 25, Shot While Riding In Car In Brainerd On Friday Night

A 25-year-old man was shot while riding in a car in Brainerd on Friday night. Police said Anthony Amey had non-life threatening injuries. Woman Stabbed To Death On Hooker Road; Man Injured; Suspect Being Interviewed

A young woman was stabbed to death on Hooker Road early Friday morning and a man was injured. At approximately 1:54 a.m., Chattanooga Police responded to a stabbing at the 4000 block of Hooker Road.
