Police said Taylor Jamal Satterfield gave several different versions on how his 20-year-old girlfriend was shot and killed on Tuesday morning.

Satterfield, 20, of 610 E. 16th St., was charged with criminal homicide in the death of Keiara Patton.

Police responded at 9:36 a.m. on a person shot at 804 W. 13th Street Court. They found Ms. Patton suffering from a shot to the head. She was taken to Erlanger Hospital, where she died.

Police said Satterfield was seen leaving the victim's residence and getting into the passenger side of a 2000 Dodge Durango immediately after the shot was fired.

Investigators later learned that a .40 caliber Springfield pistol was placed in a manhole directly where witnesses said Satterfield was seen getting into the Dodge.

Satterfield was located at Erlanger and taken in for questioning.

Police said he first said he found Ms. Patton dead at her residence.

He later said the two of them were arguing when he put his handgun to his head and she tried to grab it, causing it to discharge and strike her.

Another version was that Ms. Patton charged him with knives and, as he was trying to escape, she swiped at his gun causing it to discharge.

Satterfield said he left to take his kids, who were present at the shooting, to another location.
