The Bryan College baseball team defeated Brewton-Parker College, 4-3, this morning in an NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round game in Kingsport, Tenn.
The No,4 seeded Lions improve to 34-27 overall and 1-1 in the tournament and now face Culver-Stockton in another elimination game.
With the game tied at 1-1, Bryan scored three runs in the eighth inning. Brewton-Parker scored two times in the ninth, but Bryan reliever Kenny Knudson got the final out for the save.
Bryan's Justin Morhardt, Cody Rhinehart, and Joey Underwood all finished with one run batted in and two hits each. Preston King and Crandon Wallace had two hits and one run scored apiece. Grant Zawadzki tallied two hits.
L.J. Rowden started on the mound for the Lions and earned the win. He allowed three runs (one earned) on seven hits in eight and two-thirds innings of work before giving way to Knudsen.
