University of Tennessee at Chattanooga redshirt freshman Teghan Henderson (Pickering, Ontario) ran a personal record in the 1500 meter run Friday night at the Georgia Tech Invitational, placing second in her heat and 12th overall.

Henderson, running in her first collegiate 1500 meter last ran the race more than two years ago in high school and was edged out at the finish line, placing second in her heat with a time of 4:31.10, just 0.12 seconds behind UCF’s Anne-Marie Blaney.

“She’s hasn’t been training for the 1500,” UTC head coach Bill Gautier said. “She been working on the longer more pace-type work. They went out fairly good at first, but then everyone started jockeying for position.”

Florida State’s Linden Hall was the overall winner in a time of 4:18.45, running the first heat. Duke and the Seminoles combined for the top six spots with Duke’s Haley Meier placing second at 4:21.03.

“We’re happy,” Gautier said. “It was a good race for her.”

Henderson will continue training for the upcoming NCAA East Region Meet. She will choose between the 5000 meter and the 10,000 meter events later next week. The race is hosted by North Florida University in Jacksonville, Fla., May 29-31.
