Polk County Man Who Authorities Say Provided Security For Wife's Drug Dealing Given 14 Years

  • Monday, May 19, 2014

A Polk County man who authorities say provided the muscle during drug deals engineered by his wife was sentenced on Monday to serve 14 years in federal prison.

Corey Welch appeared before Judge Sandy Mattice.

Robin Welch faces sentencing later.

Corey Welch was taken into custody in May 2012 after an incident in which police found him carrying a silver revolver. He dropped the gun, then picked it up and ran into some nearby woods. He then called for help after shooting himself in the shoulder.

Prosecutor Terra Bay said the Welch couple made trips to Atlanta to pick up meth. She said Ms. Welch arranged the deals and he provided protection.
