County Mayor Coppinger Says Upcoming Budget Is Simplified, Yet Every Dollar Is Accounted For

Wednesday, May 21, 2014 - by Hollie Webb

Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger told the County Commission Wednesday in regard to the budget that will be released next week, "What we've tried to do this year is simplify."

He said, "If we listed every chair or table that got bought into a separate category, you wouldn't be able to put that book together." Many items like this will be listed as "miscellaneous."

However, County Mayor Coppinger emphasized, "Every dollar is accounted for.

"

He said, "As we work through this process, I hope we can work together and I hope we can keep it in front of the public the way it should be."

During the meeting, a resolution was passed to allow County Mayor Coppinger to accept a $516,000 FastTrack infrastructure grant from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. The money is funded jointly by the state and Coca-Cola Bottling Company United, Inc.

Another resolution was passed to accept the proposal of LexisNexis VitalChek Network, Inc. to provide online and toll free payment services for the office of the Hamilton County Criminal Court Clerk.

Other resolutions passed allowed for several updates to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department. A bid was accepted from Insight Public Sector for 23 new in-car camera video systems and a purchase of eight new portable radios was also approved.

Another resolution passed will allow the county to create a roundabout at the intersection of Standifer Gap Road and Ooltewah Ringgold Road. The resolution was an agreement with Eastside Utility District to relocate a waterline.

An amendment to the "Master List of Roads and Speed Limits" was created, changing Bella Pointe Drive to Bella Point.

Decimating The Chattanooga Public Library

Corinne Hill claims that the library is just undergoing a normal weeding process for eliminating books.  She has bragged that she's responsible for the elimination of over 100,000 books - with more to go. I am sure that it is the grandest of events, for you see, she has been planing ... (click for more)
