Outdoor Service Sunday At Grace Episcopal

Friday, May 30, 2014

An outdoor service will be at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at Grace Episcopal Church, 20 Belvoir Ave. Adult classes are not meeting this week,

This Sunday marks Grace’s celebration of Rogation Day, when congregations traditionally ask God’s blessing on their agricultural holdings and the annual yields thereof.  The opportunity will be taken at the 10:45 a.m. service to give thanks and rejoice in creation among the trees, flowers and the nearby garden-boxes that have been planted by parishioners and neighbors.

Bring lawn chairs for the outdoor service and come early to help set up.  Some metal folding chairs will be available for use.

For hay fever sufferers or those who prefer a more traditional worship setting, the 8 a.m. service will remain indoors.

Roy Exum: John Glenn’s ‘Hero’

When John Glenn became the first man to orbit earth, the timing was perfect. I was 13 years old at the time, in need of a hero, and I latched on to the astronaut tighter than a tick. All of us boys knew he’d flown 150 missions in fighters in World War II and Korea and, believe me, he was “The Right Stuff” long before the great movie about the Mercy 7 daredevils came out about 30 ...
