The Dalton Police Department is investigating a fatal single car crash that occurred early Tuesday morning on the North Dalton Bypass.  Investigators believe that the driver experienced some sort of medical emergency that caused the crash.

Shortly before 4:30 a.m., 911 dispatchers received a report that a man was trying to drive to Hamilton Medical Center with chest pains and alerted officers to be on the lookout for his red Honda Civic.  At approximately 5:07 a.m., a witness reported seeing a westbound vehicle matching the description in the lookout leave the roadway on the bypass near Vista Drive and hit a tree.

The driver was identified as Olen Roberts, 52, of Chatsworth.

The witness told investigators that the driver did not hit his brakes or attempt to veer back onto the road before hitting the tree.
