The Dalton State College trail system has been the beneficiary of two enterprising young men who recently constructed bridges on the Cascade Trail that runs through the college woods near The James E. Brown Center.

Ryan Clark, assisted by members of Boy Scout troop 111, completed his bridge as his Eagle Project. Ethan Calhoun, a graduate of Dalton State with a bachelor’s degree in biology, singlehandedly constructed his bridge as a lasting gift to the College.

Materials for both bridges were provided by funds from the Dalton State Foundation. Dalton State’s trail system consists of three interconnected trails accessible from George Rice Drive on the west side of the campus.

The trail heads are clearly marked and are available for community use.

TWRA receives calls, messages and emails regularly regarding longstanding myths and more. A common call is, “I heard coyotes hunting last night”. No one ever runs through the woods yelling loudly when they’re hunting. Another is, “I heard a mountain lion screaming”. Cougars are really quiet animals and all recordings received turn out to be red fox; which have a fairly loud scream. ... (click for more)

CPS Should Have A Manned 24/7 Presence In Every County

This week something became abundantly clear to me. The Department of Child Protective Services in the state of Tennessee, or at least in Hamilton County, are asleep at the wheel.   Early yesterday afternoon local news stations broke the news: "Animals Removed from Soddy Daisy Home."  What the news station either didn't know, or didn't report, was that the children of ... Roy Exum: Heroes Gather On July 14

Oliver North, whose journey as American patriot has not been an easy one, never lost hope. He once admitted he lied to Congress under oath, was found guilty of three felony counts after he followed the direct orders of his superiors, and then endured the wrath of the ignorant before the ACLU – of all sources – had the charges vacated. The former Lt. Colonel in the Marine Corps ... (click for more)
