Keith Rawls Facing Attempted Murder Charge After Ruckus At O'Charley's

Friday, June 13, 2014 - by Hollie Webb

A Chattanooga man was arrested for attempted first-degree murder after police say he tried to shoot another man because he had been "talking to his baby mama."

According to police, Keith Rawls, 22, showed up at the O'Charley's on Shallowford Road with a gun because he believed he had an issue with an employee, 18-year old Brandon Anderson, regarding the woman in question.

Rawls said Anderson had come to his home the day prior and made threatening statements, so he told police he decided to confront him in the O'Charley's parking lot.

He admitted he had also come to "fight" Anderson.

What started as a verbal altercation between the two men quickly escalated. According to police, Rawls struck Anderson in the head multiple times with the gun before knocking him to the ground and firing a shot at him.

In Rawls' statement to police, he said he only had the gun in his hand because it fell out of his pocket and he caught it.

Anderson told police he did not know Rawls directly but said he had helped Rawls' girlfriend fix a car.

Anderson said after the shot was fired, they both got into a struggle for the gun which resulted in the magazine clip being released. At that point, other people stepped in to separate them.

When police arrived, Anderson was treated at the scene for abrasions and lacerations to the face.

Rawls fled but police quickly found him heading on foot toward several hotels.

Bond was set at $200,000. He is set to appear before Sessions Court Judge Christie Sell on Wednesday.
