Operation Famous Salute Collects Over 1,300 Letters For Nation’s Military

Monday, June 16, 2014

Famous Dave’s Barbecue Restaurants across East Tennessee wrapped up another successful year of Operation Famous Salute over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Diners were invited to pen messages and words of encouragement to our nation’s military service members on stationary provided by Famous Dave’s.  The event took place Friday, May 23, through the end of business on Monday, May 26.

This year, over 1,300 letters were collected from the five Middle Tennessee Famous Dave’s locations, including Chattanooga, Knoxville and three stores in the Nashville metro.  Famous Dave’s has now gathered all letters and will pick up the postage costs of sending the letters, while also packaging with Famous Dave’s barbecue sauces, giving our service members a little taste of home.  Letters will be sent to active military still serving overseas, as well as those recovering in our military hospitals stateside as well.

“Thank you to the folks who took the time to write letters because we know that small gesture over a holiday weekend will be a big blessing as a touch from home in a land far away,” said Tamara List, owner with Famous Five Dining, and Famous Dave’s Chattanooga.  “We’re happy to know that we can play a small part in that blessing.”

Cell Phones And Roundabouts

I read the article written by Chris Morgan about the use of cell phones in vehicles and the Chattanooga Roundabouts. Cell phone use in vehicles especially in crisis intersection situations is extremely dangerous. I also agree with his assessment about the roundabouts. One problem I see with roundabouts is that on the two-lane roundabouts where they are coming in from ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: Two Wrongs Not Right

Scottie Mayfield is a delightful friend of mine but he’s the last guy in the world who should be aiming at anybody’s character. He’s always had class but today Scottie is the “star” of a shameful political commercial in which he assails challenger Weston Wamp on behalf of a panicked Chuck Fleischmann. Mayfield, you’ll remember, ran against the two in the last race for the District ... (click for more)
