Police say a man and woman left a 24-year-old Dalton woman in a car to die.

Calhoun, Ga., Police said they do not believe that Haley Stanley was dead when she was abandoned in the car near the VFW on East Line Street. But she subsequently died in the vehicle.

David Bastin and Frances Leming, both of Calhoun, are charged with one count each of involuntary manslaughter and one count each of reckless conduct.

The victim was found in her car last Wednesday just after 10 a.m. The body was taken to the state Crime Lab.

Lt. Tony Pyle said, "It appears the suspects drove the victim to the location where she was discovered and left her without any regard for her safety or well-being. Based on information we received during our investigation, we do not believe the suspects directly caused the death of Miss Stanley. However, we do believe the victim was still alive and in obvious distress when she was abandoned by the suspects."

Bastin is being held at the Gordon County Jail.

Police are still looking for Ms. Leming.

If anyone knows of Ms. Leming’s whereabouts, please contact the Calhoun Police Department 706-629-1234.

Regulations As A Whole On Signal Mountain

A few years ago I was flying over Chattanooga on my way to Atlanta.  The sun had just come up and I enjoyed picking out Signal Mountain’s location, on Walden’s Ridge, in the morning light.  What was amazing was that I could not tell that a town existed under the tree canopy.  I hope that the same can be said 10, 20, or even 50 years from now.  During last ... Roy Exum: An Unfortunate Sentence

There was a most unfortunate line in a recent email written to me and, in retrospect, I should not have included it in some examples of the huge response regarding the bicycle lanes now being installed on Broad Street.
