2 More Arrests Made In Dalton Murder Of Abel Carmona

  • Friday, June 20, 2014

The Dalton Police Department arrested Marquis Dequan Tanner, 20, shortly before midnight Thursday on a murder warrant for his role in a Wednesday night murder on Easterling Street.  Investigators say Tanner was part of an apparent drug deal that went bad and led to the shooting death of 20-year-old Abel Carmona.

Then, the third and final suspect in Wednesday night's homicide surrendered to authorities at the Dalton Police Services Center on Friday night. Tywon Jay Henderson, 17, was wanted on a warrant for murder.

Tanner, whose listed address is 110 Mallory Drive in Dalton, was arrested after he showed up at an apartment at the Cliffs apartments at 816 Shugart Road which he was known to frequent. Dalton officers were conducting surveillance on the location and conducted a traffic stop on a Nissan Pathfinder that matched the description of a vehicle in which Tanner was reportedly traveling. Tanner was in the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident.

Earlier in the day Thursday, Dalton detectives arrested 16-year-old Endy Becerra and charged him with murder. Investigators determined that the victim in Wednesday’s homicide, Abel Carmona, went to an apartment complex on Easterling Street to buy a large quantity of marijuana and met with Becerra, Tanner, and also 17-year-old Tywon Jay Henderson.  Something went wrong during the meeting and Carmona was shot and killed. Investigators have not yet said which of the suspects pulled the trigger.
